Hello my lovely hair fairies, I wanted to go into the topic of hair colour and how to lock it in. It is probably one of the most frequently asked questions my clients bring up and I am going to tell you a few of my hair secrets to help you peeps out.
Washing those Locks: Try to wash your lovely mane less often, washing your strands allot does cause colour fade and leaves you with hair a horse would feed on. Keep water temperature warm, not too hot as this expands the hair more causing the colour to fade.
Shampoo and Conditioner: Use decent shampoos with colour saving ingredients, also sulfate free is always a better buy. Try only shampooing your hair once or twice a week unless your hair is extremely dirty and you need a shovel to lift the dirt off.
Make sure you can tell the difference between a clear shampoo and a cream based. Clear shampoo tends to strip the impurities out of your hair while cream based adds more moisture… Always condition and moisture your hair, it fills it with goodness and holds your colour, this doesn’t mean condition your hair to the point of it looking like you piled a load of olive oil into your hair.
Treatments: Always treat your hair with a mask or oil based treatments, healthy hair always holds colour better as your beautiful strands are stronger and not too sensitized/brittle. Dry icky hair loses its colour really fast..
Heat protect: Always use a heat protector for your hair before blow drying or straightening. Heat changes the texture of your hair witch can dull your colour and make it fade faster.
The Sun: Use leave in conditioner with UV filters or leave in spray treatments such as detangelers… Also my little butterflies where a hat….The sun really does lift that hair colour so hide from it as much as you can.
Reds: When colouring hair anything with a red tone it really does fade faster. Reds never hold as well as most other colours and its nice for the short term but long term it looks like a faded mess. So if its longevity of colour your looking for stay away from reds.
I hope these few tips have helped you out a little. Ive added pics of some recommendations to help hold that colour onto your lovely locks. Enjoy !!!
